Meet Blitz (sketch by Len Weatherly)

Illustrated by Len Weatherly, 2013

Here is an excellent depiction of a new character I have created in a fantasy collaboration with other writers. Len Weatherly, a fellow collaborating writer (check out his site through the link) for a brand new project I am now a part of, has kindly drawn out this wonderful sketch.

Blitz is a companion character in my band of outlaws for stories that are being planned out at the moment. I don’t want to give out any spoilers for how he enters the story. He is a young wolf of the Black Mane Pack, still a pup for the most part. From the drawing you might not be able to tell without someone else standing next to him, but Blitz is actually quite short.

He has an innocent personality due to inexperience, but he also possesses a wild, untamed power that he can barely hold together when he uses it. Hopefully as the adventures progress he will learn better control. We’ll certainly find out.

The Wolves of Sesho are based in the north-east mountain forests. They are territorial and live in Packs which consist of a hundred Wolves or so in each. Their magical abilities typically involve wind/storm elements. The Wolves enjoy long lifespans of a few hundred years, and they are capable of breeding with the Vix, the foxes to the west. The result of such a union is a half-breed called a Jackal*. Jackals populate the wide valleys to the south and have lower lifespans of around a century. They are far more numerous than either of the groups which created them.

Much more on the new world to come!

* – I realize that real foxes and wolves can not breed, and a jackal is something else entirely.

Len does a great job with his sketches. I can’t wait to delve into all of this!

    1. I’ve enjoyed working on my part, but seeing the ideas of everyone else has been even better. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Coming up with characters before cultures and worlds. My brain’s working on it, though. Have a book due to the publisher on Thursday, then kids go to school and I should be able to dig in.

        1. Sounds great. I wish you all the best with your book.

  3. Looking forward to the adventures of Blitz and his companions.
