5 month blog-anniversary! & a summary of what’s happened / what’s next

When I made a post after my first month of blogging, I was congratulating my readers for being kind enough to follow my blog. At that point in time, I had under 20 followers. Yesterday, we just passed 140!

These past few months of blogging alongside my primary writing project have been wonderful. It has been a lot of fun and has rarely felt like work. When I started this blog, I was in the final stages of planning book one of my series, and since then I have written about a quarter of the first draft. The going has been slow but sure and now, FOTS is not my only project in the works. I have a sci-fi novel that I am working on here and there, a side project I am calling Project Tango, and that’s not all. This past weekend I was invited to be a part of a collaboration project with other writers. It is a great opportunity for me to express my imagination and to practice my writing craft, so we’ll see how it goes.

A summary of what has happened on the blog so far:

We started with posts on high-level world building categories such as Geography, History, Warfare, etc. In them, I talked about certain aspects of creating a fictional world, while ending the posts with applications to my own fantasy novel. Many of those posts are still the most successful on the site, to date.

Next I made a line of posts which previewed some of my characters, the world map and its societies, and a few first draft excerpts. If you haven’t checked out the Characters and Nations categories in particular, be sure to give them a read.

What is coming next:

The A to Z posts of random people/places/things in my FOTS world will continue. Beyond that, I think there is enough pure content to last a while. Moving forward, the things I’ll post from FOTS will include the occasional excerpt plus another series of world building posts with more specific topics from the ones I started this blog with. They will be about the same format as before.

I also want to make more posts about writing in general. To be honest, those are the ones which receive the most attention, and the discussions they create in the comments are very interesting. A few idea drafts have already been made and should be completed soon. Since it is August, I am deliberately putting off posting more than a couple times per week to save the good stuff for the fall. You know, the dog-days-of-summer and all that jazz.

I will post any stories I write for the collaboration project, as well, which will probably be told in short episodes. Book reviews will of course continue as usual. One of them actually made it to the front page of Google search results.

Lastly, I’ll post a few occasional things relating to Project Tango. It’s something that I barely work on as it sits on the sidelines for now, but since I am literally starting it from scratch it might be interesting to show updates.
